Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene, with military honors conducted by Tack Barnett Post 268 American Legion of Greene.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St. in Greene.Darwin was born on Aug. 12, 1932, in Waverly, Bremer County, Iowa, the son of Harold and Florence (Dye) Ebling and entered into eternal rest on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, surrounded by his family.He received his education in public school graduating from Dumont High School in 1949. He enlisted in the United States Army in April 1953, and served in Germany as part of the 60th Field Artillery Battalion. He was honorably discharged in February 1955.Darwin was united in marriage to Fonda Worley on Sept. 11, 1955, at the Methodist Church in Aredale, Iowa. This union was blessed with five children. The couple remained married for the next 45 years until Fonda’s death. Darwin married Frances Van Dyke in August 2004.Darwin spent his entire life farming in the Aredale area. He moved to Greene in 1992 and finally retired from farming just a few years ago.When he lived in the Aredale area Darwin was a member of the Methodist Church in Aredale where he served on the Board of Trustees and taught Sunday school. When he moved to Greene he became a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Greene, where he offered his talents whenever needed and proudly served for years as an usher.Early in his life Darwin was very involved with the 4-H program. Later he served on many Farm Coop type boards, was involved in the Pro Farmer Tour, worked with the Food Resources Bank, was a member of the Wednesday Morning Men’s Prayer Group, and was a member of the Tack Barnett Post 268, American Legion of Greene.
